Eberlein House

Location/Directions

Eberlein HouseDespite its small size, this 12-ft. x 25-ft. early Greek Revival house has three rooms - two are small and one is very small. Built between 1876 and 1877, it is one of Breckenridge's earliest homes and is associatesd with Summit County's first documented family, the Marksbury-Eberlein Family. Jeanette "Nettie" Marksbury married William F. Eberlein, a placer miner, on June 6, 1876. They lived in the town of Montezuma when William was elected county assessor and later moved to Breckenridge, presumably because Breckenridge was the county seat. When the Eberleins lived in this house, it was located on North Main Street and had a boardwalk going to its front door.

Years later, the small home was turned into a TV repair shop owned by the Pastorius. Many years after that, it was moved to its present site. The flooring in the house is original; what wallpaper remains also is original. The small size of the house is what strikes visitors most.
